Container Freight Rate : SCFI

SCFI 종합지수
August SCFI averaged 1,472, down 13% MoM, with steep declines on North and South America routes. North America stayed weak after front-loading ended and carriers struggled to adjust capacity. Europe fell by 14% MoM as supply pressure persisted despite cuts, with peak season ending early and holiday demand fading.

Samsung SDS SCFI Forecast

삼성SDS SCFI 전망
Demand recovery in H2 is expected to be difficult, with new supply and minimal scrapping keeping pressure across routes, making a rate rebound unlikely. Despite the extended U.S.–China tariff truce to Nov 10, North America routes face weak demand and capacity issues, limiting chances of rate normalization this year. Europe routes usually weaken from late August to Golden Week, and oversupply adds risk of further declines.

TAC Index
In the last week of Aug (week 36), the Baltic Air Freight Index reached 2,051, up 2.6% from the previous week but down 0.5% month over month and 8.2% year over year. The traditional summer low season is limiting overall rate increases. While certain markets—such as apparel, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and semiconductors—continue to face capacity shortages, overall rates remain flat or are trending downward.

Samsung SDS TAC Forecasting

삼성SDS TAC 전망
Weakened demand in the second half has stabilized China–North America rates, but a temporary spike is expected in Nov due to the shopping season.
Vietnam rates are projected to rise on the back of increased demand following production shifts and the onset of the traditional peak season. India is expected to see a rate increase in Sep driven by temporary demand growth from new mobile product launches.

Demand & Supply Trend

수요&공급 동향
Global demand rose 6% year over year in Q1–Q2 2025 due to early shipments, but growth is expected to slow to 3.7% in Q3 amid the impact of U.S. reciprocal tariffs on multiple countries and the full termination of the de minimis exemption.
Global capacity in Aug rose 9% year over year, driven by increased passenger belly supply returning to pre-pandemic levels, with Europe–Asia capacity offsetting reduced flows between Asia and North America.
