Square Now Samsung SDS Global Logistics Risk Response: Port Strikes and Delays

Registration dateSEP 09, 2025

The global supply chain can be affected at any time by numerous variables such as weather, strikes, and port congestion. When unexpected risks occur, companies face difficulties such as logistics delays and increased costs. To proactively respond to such uncertainties, Samsung SDS operates the Global Control Center (GCC), an integrated logistics control center, to detect global logistics risks in real time and respond quickly.

01

From Risk Detection to Response, Real-Time Logistics Management

Samsung SDS GCC monitors real-time vessel and aircraft locations, transportation routes, and port congestion to promptly detect cargo irregularities. By collecting daily global news and issues from over 300 logistics sites, around 70 logistics risks are identified on average each day based on past data. The risks are classified into three levels according to severity and are automatically disseminated after sorting, so that logistics operators can immediately recognize risk situations and respond.

02

Logistics risk Response Process

When risks occur, Samsung SDS conducts comprehensive analysis of affected cargo through meetings with the emergency response organization and logistics operators. Then, alternative transport solutions are proposed to customers, transportation plans are adjusted and executed based on scenarios, and response cases are converted into data to be used in similar situations in the future. In other words, beyond monitoring, a systematic process with real execution power is in operation.

03

Actual Response Cases

Case 1: 2024 U.S. East Coast Port Strike

Samsung SDS detected the possibility of a strike early, preemptively removed customers’ containers to prevent additional costs, provided inland transportation after emergency unloading (COD) for cargo in transit during the strike, and proposed alternative routes using West Coast ports for cargo prior to shipment.

04

Case 2: Port Skip Risk at Genoa Port, Italy

Samsung SDS detected the possibility of a port skip in advance, conducted emergency unloading at La Spezia Port, connected inland transportation, and as a result, was able to secure customer logistics safely without transportation delays.
