- Hong Kong's container throughput in 2024 fell to 13.7 million TEU, the lowest since 1996, mainly due to increased competition from mainland Chinese ports.
- The government and industry are discussing measures to strengthen Hong Kong's shipping sector to maintain its status as an international port hub.

[Americas] U.S. East Coast port labor agreement reached
- The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) have reached a tentative six-year master contract, covering all aspects, including automation.
- After agreeing to a 62% wage increase following the October 2023 strike, disputes over port automation led to six consecutive weeks of rising freight rates from mid-November. With six days left before the January 15 deadline, both sides reached an agreement, easing strike concerns and reversing the rate surge

- Le Havre, France’s largest container port, faces strikes over pension reforms, with 48-hour walkouts on Jan 30-31 and more planned until Feb 28.
