Glossary AWB (Air Waybill)

Air Waybill(AWS) is a document that proves a cargo transportation contract between a consignor and an airline. It is also known as an "Air Consignment Note." It is a bill of lading (B/L) for ocean transportation, but it does not have negotiability like the B/L. Master AWB is an AWB where a freight forwarder is listed as a consignor so that consolidated cargo can be entrusted to an airline. Meanwhile, a house AWB is an invoice issued when a freight forwarder signs a transportation contract with a shipper based on its carriage clauses, and one HAWB assigns numbers to each of the consolidated cargo.
