[Nepal]NOV 05 Death toll in Nepal earthquake reaches at least 157
The force of the 5.6 magnitude tremor jolted households flattened mud houses in communities across isolated western districts of the Himalayan late Friday. The quake was felt as far away as India's capital New Delhi, nearly 500 kilometers(310 miles) from the epicenter. Dozens of survivors with fractures and head injuries were raced for treatment to a hospital in Nepalgunj.

[UK]NOV 03 Peterborough Transit workers could strike on Nov. 18
Cory MacLeod, president of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1320, says on Nov. 1, the local received a 'No board' report from the Ministry of Labour - a notice that conciliation will not be appointed. The City of Peterborough and the union have been negotiating a new contract since May. Key issues include pay and length of work hours. Contract talks broke down in mid September.

[Sweden]NOV 03 Swedish union widens strike for Tesla workers
Swedish metalworkers union expanding its strike against Tesla. First stage of strike affected some 130 mechanics at 10 Tesla facilities. On Friday, strike expanded to include 470 more workers at 17 facilities. Sweden Transport Workers' union has also announced sympathy measures in support of IF Metall's strike, threatening to block the loading and unloading of Tesla cars at four Swedish ports, starting on November 7 unless an agreement is reached.

[US]NOV 03 Runaway barge in Seattle's Elliott Bay hits marina
The barge has been secured, no injuries have been reported and the evacuation was eventually called off. The Coast Guard was notified at 1 25 p.m. that the floating platform was drifting from Terminal 18 toward Pier 66 in Elliott Bay. Capt. Dan Krehbiel, who was manning the King County Water Taxi from West Seattle to Pier 50, noticed it floating without any tugboats, apparently heading toward the Great Wheel and the Seattle Aquarium.

[UK]NOV 02 Storm Ciaran : Flights cancelled, power blackouts and schools shut
Nearly 9,000 homes in Cornwall have been left without power due to storm. Schools across Dorset, Sussex and Hampshire have shut their doors. British Airways and KLM are among airlines cancelling flights. Several train operating companies have warned of disruption. Langdon Bay in Kent has already recorded 71mph winds, Met Office said.

[Philippines]NOV 02 Cargo Ship Catches Fire Off the Philippines
A fire broke out aboard the cargo ship Ken off the Philippines Thursday morning. No injuries were reported. The vessel reportedly caught fire near Castilla Anchorage Area in Sorsogon. A Coast Guard inspection of the area found no traces of oil spill. According to the eight crewmembers on board, the fire started in the vessel's mess hall.

[Sweden]NOV 02 Oil-spill ferry towed to port in Sweden: coast guard
Marco Polo ferry ran aground south of the southern city of Karlshamn on October 22. It stayed still for days but then drifted off due to strong winds on Sunday. Once again ran off, causing further oil spills. Sweden on Friday fined two crew members for recklessness in maritime traffic. On Tuesday, the coastguard said some 50,000 litres (13,000 gallons) of oil and oil waste had been collected.

[Australia]OCT 30 Air Niugini apologizes for flight disruptions due to shortage of planes
Papua New Guinea's Air Niugini has been troubled by a shortage of serviceable planes. The airline was expecting to receive four Dash 8 Q400 turboprop and two Boeing 737 800 aircraft by September 2023. Aging of its existing fleet also overshadowed the airline's services. Air Niugin executes more than 70 domestic and international flights daily.

[Canada]OCT 30 Seaway strike ends, maritime traffic resumes
The labor dispute between the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) and UNIFOR has ended, the Chamber of Marine Commerce said Sunday. “We are pleased that this interruption in vital Seaway traffic has come to an end, and we can focus once more on meeting the needs of consumers around the world,” said Bruce Burrows, president and CEO of the Chamber of Marine Commerce.
